I’m Lindsay Smith, an architectural designer with experience in a competitive commercial childcare field, focusing now on a new range of projects and clients. I have the capacity to work solo or as part of a design team, managing and working with contractors, and taking a project from conceptual design to completion. With over 5 years industry experience, I have held architectural design, practice and project management positions at agencies in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
I offer Conceptual, Schematic, and Design Development services at a minimum. This often means complete site, floor, elevation, and section drawings, developed to the appropriate level of detail at all phases. My process often starts with a holistic approach, imagining and presenting a design in multiple ways. What is the true intent of your project? We’ll find it together.
I create first with my mind and hands. I love to draw and sketch, and I have an (un)healthy obsession for Architectural modeling making.
I work in a variety of digital drafting programs on a daily basis, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, modo, and Revit. I use whichever medium is necessary to capture the intent of the design, looking to my physical sketch-work and hand-drafting to know which workflow to use. I use 2-dimensional programs to build a base for the design, developing a structure framework and checking necessities such as code compliance. Next, and often in parallel, I craft the space in 3-dimensions. The final step often brings the design back to a 2D graphic medium, such as Illustrator or Photoshop, used to further enhance the experience with color and imaging. Administrative programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are of course part of my skill base as well. My computer skills often cross the Windows/Mac OS barrier.
The Good Stuff
I hope to make my own craft beer one day.
And, I really like having fun, with my work and in life.
